HIGHLAND- The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge is no more. From now on, the span connecting Poughkeepsie and Highland will be known as “The Andrew M. Cuomo Mid-Hudson Bridge.”
The new name was unveiled today in a ceremony that included local mayors, state lawmakers and business leaders.
“When we needed ventilators, the Governor came through!” said Ulster County Executive Ryan K. Patrick. “Naming this bridge for him is fitting and proper.”
“It’s a family affair!” proclaimed NYS Bridge Authority chairman Carmine Lovessa.
Dutchess County Executive and former GOP gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro could not be reached for comment.
In parallel ceremonies happening up and down the Hudson, the following bridges were also renamed:
- Rip Van Winkle is now the Matilda Cuomo Bridge
- The Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge is now the Chris Cuomo Bridge
- The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge is now the Cara Kennedy-Cuomo Bridge.
- The Bear Mountain Bridge is now the Mariah Kennedy-Cuomo Bridge
The Mario Cuomo Bridge (formerly Tappan Zee) will remain unchanged.
