NEW PALTZ- A recently unearthed rap video by yet another New Paltz cop has some critics accusing the town of hypocrisy.
Just days after suspending Officer Robert Sisco for posting a rap many found offensive in its statements about transgender individuals and 2016 Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, a rap by Lieutenant Sean Wallace was posted to social media. (Sisco was later asked to perform at the Republican National Convention.) Critics say the town is turning a blind eye to its content because it conforms with the political beliefs of town officials.
The rap includes lines like:
The NPPD is the squad that I represent,
There are 71 genders, Trump shouldn’t be president.
Some girls have a penis, some boys have a vagina,
This whole coronavirus was handled better by China.
Trump should have been impeached,
We all know the reason:
He’s Vlad’s little bitch,
We should shoot him for treason.
And:
Abolish the police is what we’re hearing today.
Can’t say I blame you, someone needs to pay.
And while it’s true not every cop is a piece of shit,
We need to clean up our act or we deserve what we get.
Dropping knowledge about privilege makes cracker myths shatter,
Can’t believe we need to say this but BLACK LIVES MATTER.
Resident John Garrella said the town’s response shows its biases.
“Not only did the town not make a big deal out of this, we understand officials celebrated rap as ‘powerful’ and ‘brave’ and made it mandatory for all town employees to listen to it and then write an essay reflecting on how it made them feel. We also understand that shortly after the rap was circulated, Wallace was promoted to sergeant and then lieutenant (with a salary of $110,000 per year) much sooner than he should have been based on union rules and without obtaining the requisite certifications.”
Town Councilman Dave Torre said the two raps “are really not comparable in their subject matter… after all, it is an objective fact that there are more than two genders and that Trump should have been impeached.”
As for as what action the town will take, “union rules really tie our hands on this sort of thing and we can’t comment in detail on personnel matters, but off-the-record, yeah we’re not going to do anything.”
