Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, seeking to “step back” from their royal roles and carve out their own brand away from the prying eyes of British news media, are considering moving to Kingston, according to a palace insider.
“Harry was browsing Instagram one evening when he encountered the #movetokingstonnow hashtag and was blown away,” said the source.
Of particular attraction was the biannual “Burning of Kingston” celebration, commemorating the 1777 destruction of the city by British forces.
“Harry thought any city that regularly celebrates its own defeat by the British must have a lot of residual loyalist sentiment,” said the insider. “He was also pleased the city has a football [soccer] team.”
For her part, the Duchess of Sussex was fascinated by the area’s burgeoning film scene.
“As Harry often reminds us, she does voiceovers,” said the insider.
Local elected officials greeted the news with excitement.
“When Ivanka Trump accidentally congratulated Boris Johnson for being elected prime minister of ‘United Kingston’ via tweet, the hits on our tourism website went through the roof,” said Ulster County Executive Ryan K. Patrick. “I can only imagine what this will do. Not that we’ll bother them! We’re used to celebrities here. I just saw Uma [Thurman] the other day at Mother Earth.”
