“First He Said OK, Then He Called Me Boomer”- New Paltz Dems Detail Age-Discrimination Claims

NEW PALTZ- Last week’s announcement that seven of the 16 members of the New Paltz Democratic Committee were resigning citing age discrimination sent shock waves through town, but also left many scratching their heads. What exactly did the younger members of the committee say or do to prompt the mass resignation? Since that time more details have emerged, painting a portrait of a committee torn asunder by inter-generational tension. Here are some of the complaints detailed by departing committee members in a fax sent to Hudson Valley Mountain River News:

  • Younger members refused to help elder members set up their iPads and/or Apple TVs
  • Younger members purposely scheduled meetings at same time as early-bird special at local restaurants
  • Younger members printed out important documents in a small font deliberately to prevent elder members from reading them
  • Younger members flew into rage when elder members suggested endorsing Biden for president
  • Younger members laughed when elder members refer to someone dying at age 72 as “too young”
  • Younger members insistence that meetings occur at Huckleberry rather than Garvan’s
  • Younger members routinely saying “OK Boomer” and snickering when elder members make reasonable points
  • Younger members become rude and impatient when conversation at meetings turns to sustained consideration of whether to take social security at 62 or wait

Younger members contacted for comment largely confirmed most of the incidents detailed above.

“We got rid of them didn’t we?” said committee member Tim Daniels. “Look, the time for civility is over. We have Nazis marching in the streets and a white supremacist in office. We need quick action and bold new ideas. The older generations had their chance and they blew it. It’s time for the dinosaurs to die out.”

“He said that?” said Janet Claymore, a departing committee member. “Tell him to fuck off and go eat a Tide Pod.”
